Matthew Smith What we have here is another EXCELLENT and EPIC album by the band Holy Blood.

Pretty much everything this band does is amazing, with the one exception being the band's 2014 release of Day of Vengeance which pretty much sucked because it contained none of the superb atmospheric elements that usually make this band great.

Thankfully, those symphonic and folk elements returned on the band's 2017 release of Glory to the Heroes, an EP which saw the band experimenting with a more melodic and relaxed approach to their music. In hindsight, I'm thinking that one is probably my favorite work of the band in general.

This new album, Voice of Blood, has the band playing a more brutal death metal style with some nice folk sounds added to the music at all the right moments. The result is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. The guttural vocals mix very well with the occasional clean vocals, much more so than the shrieking black metal vocals from the older albums. The overall sound of this music is truly like a breath of fresh air forced down your windpipe with the intensity of a thunderstorm!

Lyrically speaking, this album focuses on the Ukrainian and slavic peoples, encouraging them to have faith in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, to fight with honor for the cultural integrity of their homelands, and to protect and preserve their families and Christian traditions against the demonic forces of globalism which seek to destroy humanity and drag us all into a technocratic nightmare dystopia. It is a message which will resonate with people of all tribes and nations, and encourage all of us to do the same.

If I had any gripes to speak of in regards to this album, it would be that the folk and symphonic sounds are not quite as varied and omnipresent as they were on previous albums such as Waves are Dancing and Shining Sun. That, however, is a minor gripe since this album certainly has a fair amount of folky atmosphere to it. Hopefully the band will see fit to experiment with mixing this brutal death metal style with the more melodic style from Glory to the Heroes, as well as increasing the amount symphonic and folk sounds on future releases. Only time will tell, I suppose.

I recommend getting this album on VINYL to preserve this excellent work in a non digital format. If the importance of preserving your favorite music in a viable analog format hasn't become obvious to you by now, it will in the times ahead. However if you want a translation of the lyrics, you'll unfortunately need to get the CD since the vinyl version unfortunately doesn't come with the lyrics printed. I personally have both.

No matter which format you choose, get this album. NOW. You'll be glad you did.
